Getting married in Florence and in Tuscany

Among the most sought-after wedding destinations in the world

Source: Florence is You

Tuscany is among the most sought-after wedding destinations in the world. Demand to get married here by foreign couples, namely Americans, is constantly growing, as they choose it for the “most beautiful day of their lives”. Among the reasons behind said choice are, without a shadow of a doubt, the beauty of the landscape, art, history, culture, charming locations, and delicious food! “Wedding season” kicks-off in Spring when the weather becomes milder with sun-kissed days. We met Rita Tavella, CEO & Founder of “Your Wedding in Florence” , one of the most seasoned and successful professionals in the wedding industry, with over 20 years of experience crafting stunning nuptials in Tuscany and in Italy.

What’s so alluring about Tuscany? Why do more and more couples choose to get married here?

Tuscany confirms itself as the most yearned region by foreign couples and as a dream destination for weddings. There are different factors that contribute to this success. It’s considered the quintessential romantic place, one that captivates everyone for the mild climate, the scenic beauty, the locations, the villas, and the ancient castles.
Many find Tuscany’s historical-artistic-cultural context and the high-quality gastronomic offer to be what tips the scales. Getting married in Italy and in Tuscany is a dream come true also because, in the collective imagination, it embodies the lifestyle of “la dolce vita”. Often, couples are also driven by more personal reasons, which may be connected to their family, or even to the origins of close relatives. Starting from the most famous art cities like Florence, Pisa and Siena, Etruscan villages such as Volterra and Populonia, and even authentic gems like Montalcino, Pienza, Cortona, San Gimignano, or the iconic vineyards and rolling hills of Chianti and Val d’Orcia, Tuscany provides a plethora of suggestive historical venues, from villas and mansions to castles, fortresses, charming small villages, holiday farmsteads, luxury hotels, terrific relais, magical gardens, beaches and rooftops boasting one-of-a-kind views.

“Marriage proposals” are also becoming quite popular. Why so?

If you think about it, it’s a very ancient tradition that dates to centuries ago. The lover asked for the damsel’s hand in marriage; or rather, at that time, he would do so before her father, and that gesture represented the essential formality that made the engagement official. An established tradition that renews itself today, in the name of romanticism. And I can absolutely confirm this trend: there’s an increasing demand for romantic experiences tied to the moment of the proposal, and we’ve built up quite an expertise in this sense. A surprise marriage proposal in a vineyard, on a hot-air balloon, in a wine cellar, in a romantic garden, or during a candlelight dinner at a farmstead with a breath-taking view over the Tuscan vineyards and olive groves, with violins playing in the background. Just as for a wedding, a proposal also follows its unique “etiquette”, and nothing is left to chance: from the location to the atmosphere that one dreams of, keeping in mind the significant and symbolic elements for the couple, every detail matters. It’s a promise between two people that love each other, and the groom is the person who usually relies on us to come up with a unique, extraordinary, and intimate idea in an evocative scenario. It gives me joy to recall the emotions of young future spouses who ask us for tips so that everything turns out to be just perfect.
